Dear Parent,

It’s spring!  It’s winter!  It’s spring!  It’s winter!

Welcome to South Dakota weather!  For the record, everyone at Tea Legacy is ready for sunshine, warmth, birds chirping and no more snow!  As we look forward to spring we continue with each grade level academic goals to be met prior to the end of the school year.  Our focus is to prepare each student for the upcoming grade while continuing to make each day motivating, productive and providing an environment that makes students want to return with enthusiasm each day.  It is rewarding to hear  students’ comment on how much fun they think school is.   Thank-you to our excellent teaching staff at Tea Legacy.

A district area of focus this year is attendance.  Research shows that those students with poor attendance have difficulty with their current academics in addition to their future academics.  Thank you for sending the message to your child that their education is a priority by seeing to it that your child is at school each day and that they arrive on time.

As Legacy Elementary addresses Tea Area District goals I want to share with you how we put into action District Goal number 4, which is to develop in students an awareness of what it means to be a civic leader in the community.  District Goal number 4:  “Future Titan graduates are civic leaders engaged in the community through action and service.”  Our belief is students learn best through involvement, and that is what took place on Valentine’s Day 2017.  Legacy Elementary united with roughly 90 parent and grandparent volunteers and tied over 200 fleece blankets for those in need.  We then had a representative from the Furniture Mission in Sioux Falls visit with the entire student body to share what it meant to the families that would receive the blankets.  I do believe students understood the gift they had given to many families in the surrounding area.  They received the message that when many work together great things can happen.  We delivered blankets to the Pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea and to the Furniture Mission in Sioux Falls.  What a great day it was!

The year has flown by as I am sure you would agree.   We look forward to seeing you at the Spring Conferences being held on, Monday, April 10, 2017 that run from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. with a 3 hour early dismissal for the students.  Please remember to stop by the Book Fair that will be set up in our multi-purpose room as you enter Legacy Elementary.  The purchases at the Book Fair directly benefit the Legacy library.   If you are interested, we do need volunteers to help with the Book Fair, just give Legacy office a call, 605-498-2700 option #1.  Thank you ahead of time if you can spare some time to help with the Book Fair.

The end of the year will be here before we know it.   Thank you for your support as you guide your child/children in their first years of education at Legacy Elementary.   Working together as, “Partners in Education,” is the key to your child’s success.

Yours in Education,

Ms. Betsy Drew, Tea Legacy Elementary Principal
